It's been a while since we've gotten together for band practice but we have all made a resolution to hit it hard this year, complete some songs and start playing out. To mark the occasion I decided to bring my camera along to document how things went down. Enjoy! (I've included descriptions of each image below the collage)
WANTED: We are looking for a female singer to take the role of lead vocals for our band. So if you (or somebody you know) has singing ability and would like to be part of a band that plays a mix of house, down-tempo, drum & bass, hip hop and electro all doused with a lot of soul please get in touch with me (info[at]kelvingumbs[dot]com). You could sit in on one of our sessions and see if we make a good fit.
1. Ranil walks into the rehearsal space chatting away on his cel as usual. :P
2. Sherwin starts unpacking some of the gear.
3. This is the studio’s PA Mixer (I believe it’s an Alesis). It’s never hooked up properly so we always have to fix it. A minor annoyance.
4. In an unexpected twist Ranil takes on lead vocals. (Ranil is the drummer).
5. Sherwin vibes while playing keys. (I used a low angle and selective focus for this image blurring out my Korg Electribe SX1 while keeping the rest in focus).
6. Ranil continues to sing AND play drums at the same time. Amazing! (I used the same photographic technique for this image as I did in #5. Since there was no overhead light where Ranil was sitting I had to use a higher ISO [1600] to make this image. Unfortunately it still came out blurry so I was a bit disappointed.
7. Sherwin playing keys and sequencing a beat live while my MicroKORG does nothing. Hey I was in picture taking mode!
8. After practice, which went extremely well, we decided to get a bit to eat. We passed by Valdrina’s (Warden & Eglington) which a cool little spot but when we got out of the car the whole area stank of natural gas. A lot of natural gas, so much so that it was heard to breathe. We decided to leave before someone decided to light up a cigarette and blow the whole block to smithereens.
9. After much discussion we decided on a Sushi spot in Pickering. The waitress saw my camera and we got into a discussion about photography. She could barely speak English but her enthusiasm was enough to keep a conversation going. I asked her to take our picture. I think she did a good job.
10. Ranil chows down. Notice the huge ball of wasabi. He ate it all. Unbelievable :S
11. All done... Sushi is DOPE!
